How It Happened
The Bulldogs put the first goal away two minutes into the game but was quickly answered less than a minute later by
Anna Brandt for her ninth goal of the season. Yale pushed ahead again by the 9:49 mark, however, that was the last lead it would have until the final 1:27 of the game.
Â
The Quakers fired off four-straight goals kicked off by a connection between Miles and
Kaitlyn Cumiskey to draw it even at two. Hunter,
Aly Feeley, and
Taylyn Stadler added to the lead with a goal each to give Penn a 5-2 advantage by the 9:26 mark of the second frame.
Â
Before the half, the Bulldogs found the back of the net twice to close the gap to one, as Penn carried a 5-4 lead into the break.
Â
The Quaker defense kept Yale quiet through much of the third quarter as they rattled off another four-goal run. Hunter bookended goals by Stadler and
Keeley Block to give Penn a 9-4 advantage with 6:11 left in the third.
Â
With time ticking down in the third, the Bulldogs' offense started to find life, closing out the frame with two goals.
Â
Themelis opened the fourth with a free-position goal to get Penn back out to a four-point lead, but Yale responded with five straight to take a lead, 11-10, with 1:27 remaining. In the closing seconds, the Quakers had an opportunity to send the game to extra time when Stadler had an isolation opportunity on the left side of the fan, but Yale goalkeeper Clare Boone collected her ninth save of the game to keep the Bulldogs ahead for the win.
