How It Happened
Penn opened the scoring a little less than five minutes into the contest, Natasha Gorriaran finishing a feed from Kennon Moon. Four minutes later, Taylyn Stadler scored an unassisted effort and the Quakers were up at the end of one, 2-0.
Anna Brandt made it 3-0 just 37 seconds into the second quarter, before Georgetown finally got on the board after more than 18 minutes of game time. That only seemed to spur the Quakers into action, as Penn scored five more times before the break. Stadler got things started with 9:16 left, and then Keeley Block netted her first off a Chloe Hunter feed to make the score 5-1.
Georgetown's Erin Bakes made it 5-2 with 5:16 left before halftime, but Block scored twice unassisted and then Hunter got her first of the day in the final minute. Penn took an 8-2 lead into the locker room.
Block's fourth of the game, a free-position shot, opened the second-half scoring and made it 9-2. Her fifth, off a Stadler feed, came after another Hoyas goal and put Penn in front 10-3 with 4:53 left in the third.
Penn went scoreless the rest of the way, but Georgetown could only make up four goals in the deficit—one in the third, three in the fourth—as Kowalski stoned the hosts time and again. She had five saves in the final stanza to keep GU at bay.
