Baseball Outslugs Wagner For Fourth Straight Win, 10-6

PHILADELPHIA – For the second time in three days, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team rallied from a multiple-run deficit with a slew of late runs, knocking off Wagner 10-6 on Friday afternoon from Meiklejohn Stadium.

Penn (9-5) picked up its sixth win in seven games with five runs in the seventh and three in the eighth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wagner (2-13) took an early 1-0 lead on a home run in the second inning. Jackson Appel tied the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI single. Wagner answered back with two in the fourth and one in the fifth, opening a 4-1 lead. Ben Miller got one back for Penn in its half of the fifth with a sacrifice fly.

After each team stranded a runner in scoring position in the sixth, the Quakers shot out in front in the seventh. Tommy Courtney and Appel sandwiched bunt singles around a line drive single by Wyatt Henseler to load the bases with no one out.

In stepped Miller, who cleared the bases with a double to left-center. Two batters later, Seth Werchan delivered a towering home run well beyond the wall in right, putting Penn up 7-4.

After Wagner got one back in the eighth, Asa Wilson led off the bottom of the inning with a double down the left field line. Courtney singled Wilson to third, but was later thrown out attempting to steal second base. With one out, Henseler drove in Wilson with a sacrifice fly.

With two out and nobody on, a single by Appel and double by Miller quickly put two runners back in scoring position. After a passed ball plated Appel, Craig Larsen singled to left field, scoring Miller for a 10-5 Penn lead.

Wagner did not go quietly in the ninth, drawing three walks, including one that forced in a run, and brought the tying run to the plate, but Brendan Bean closed out the win for his third save of the season.
