PHILADELPHIA – Fresh off another last-second victory, the No. 6 men's lacrosse team is set to open Ivy League play on Saturday at No. 4 Princeton.
 
The Quakers enter this weekend's showdown with the Tigers riding a three-game winning streak.

*Penn scored two goals in the final 1:18 of regulation to defeat Villanova, 8-7, in the first annual Farrell Cup on Sunday. 
James Shipley continued his late-game heroics with the game-tying goal with under 90 seconds remaining before 
Dylan Gergar netted the game-winning strike with less than a second left in the fourth quarter to give the Quakers their third straight victory.
 
*Saturday marks the first regular season Ivy League contest for the Quakers in 1,064 days.
 
*Penn and Princeton are playing for the 89th time in the all-time series. The first meeting between the Quakers and the Tigers came in 1928. The Red and Blue have won back-to-back meetings against Princeton and three of the last four contests.
 
*Saturday will mark Penn's third contest against a top-10 team this season. The Quakers are 2-1 versus ranked teams this spring. The Red and Blue's 14-13 overtime win versus No. 7 Duke was the team's 24th against a USILA ranked team under head coach 
Mike Murphy.

Dylan Gergar had two goals at Villanova last weekend, including the game winner. He leads the team with 16 goals in 2022 and he is tops in the Ivy League in goals per game (4.00).

Sam Handley scored two goals and added an assist in the victory over Villanova on Sunday. Handley has recorded three points in all four games this season for Penn. He leads the team with five assists and he ranks second on the squad in both goals (7) and points (12).
 
*Gergar, Handley and sophomore defender Bredan Lavelle are all on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.

James Shipley has scored a game tying or game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter in each of the last three contests. He recorded his first career hat trick against Duke on February 26.

Patrick Burkinshaw is 3-0 this season in goal. He has a 9.48 GAA to go along with 38 saves and a .567 save percentage. Burkinshaw  has made 10 or more saves seven consecutive games dating back to 2020.
 
*Penn is ranked No. 6 in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the 
Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. Princeton is ranked No. 4 in both polls.
 
*Penn named five captains prior to the start of the season. The five Quakers selected to lead the Red and Blue as team captains are: 
Ben Bedard, 
Piper Bond, 
Dylan Gergar, 
Sam Handley, and 
Theo Lenz.
 
*The Quakers were picked to finish second in the Ivy League's Preseason Media Poll, which came from the votes of two members of each school's media contingent.
