Men's Squash Beats Princeton 5-4, Clinches Share of First Ivy League Championship In 48 Years

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania's men's squash team, No. 1 in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings, clinched a share of its first Ivy League championship since 1974 with a dramatic 5-4 win over No. 5 Princeton on Saturday afternoon from Jadwin Gymnasium.

The Quakers can finish no worse than 5-1 in the league, which would tie Harvard. A win in the regular season finale tomorrow afternoon would clinch the league title outright.

In one of the best matches of the season, the Tigers struck first, taking a 2-0 advantage with a pair of three-game wins at No. #1 and #3. Penn roared back to take the lead thanks to a trio of five-game victories. First, it was Yash Bhargava, the program's all-time wins leader, who got the Quakers on the board. Roger Baddour and Dillon Huang followed, clinching their victories mere minutes apart. Aly Abou Eleinen tacked on a four-game win to push Penn's advantage to 4-2, moving to 14-0 on the season in the process.

The Tigers fought back to knot the match at 4-all, the first opponent all season to take more than three matches from Penn. Saksham Choudhary, who entered Saturday on a 26-match win streak in regular season play, made his 27th straight one to remember, clinching the match for the Quakers with a four-game win.

The Quakers will seek the outright league crown in the regular season finale tomorrow at Noon against No. 7 Cornell from the Penn Squash Center.
