How It Happened
The Quakers built up an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter with two unassisted finishes by
Kennon Moon and
Chloe Hunter within 30 seconds of one another, then Brandt scoring her first collegiate goal on a man-up opportunity at the 8:11 mark.
Â
The Blue Jays got on the board with 3:29 left in the first, then inched closer with another finish a minute later. Block halted the stretch with her first goal of the game, but Hopkins scored one more before the horn, as Penn carried a 4-3 edge into the second frame.
Â
The second quarter had the two teams trading a pair of goals. Hopkins scored the first goal of the period to draw the game even for the first time since 0-0 before Edmonds caught a dish from Miles to push Penn back out in front.
Â
Â
Before the half, Hopkins added one more to tie it at 5-5. In the closing three minutes, Cumiskey went unassisted on her goal to give Penn a 6-5 lead at the break.
Â
The second half, Hopkins found a way to slow down the Quaker offense, only allowing one goal each quarter, while the Blue Jays added two in the third and three more in the fourth. In the third, Edmonds scored the goal for Penn with three seconds remaining.
Â
Block added the final goal for the Quakers in the fourth, cutting the deficit to just two with 9:22 left. Unfortunately, scoring went silent in the final nine minutes as the score held at 10-8.
