Women's Swimming & Diving in Fourth After Day Two of Ivy Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team continued action at the 2022 Ivy League Championships on Thursday at Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University.

The Quakers are in fourth place with a score of 381 points after seven events. The host Crimson lead heading into day three with a score of 547.5 points. Princeton sits in second place at 409 points and Yale is in third with 397 points.    

During the prelims, the Red and Blue went 1-2-3 in the 500 free with Lia Thomas posting the top time and she was followed by Anna Kalandadze and Catherine Buroker to help Penn place three student-athletes in the A Finals of the event.

It was a 1-2 finish in the A final of the 500 free for the Quakers with Lia Thomas winning in a new pool record time of 4:37.32. It marked the eighth time that a Penn swimmer has won the event at the Ivy League Championships.
 

Catherine Buroker finished in second place with an NCAA B cut of 4:44.83 and Anna Kalandadze touched at 4:47.54 to came in fourth.

Bridget O'Leary won the B Final in the 500 free for Penn with a time of 4:47.77 and she was followed by teammate Amelia Girotto in second with a time of 4:49.88.

Senior captain Grace Giddings finished second in the C Final of the 500 free to score the first points of the night for Penn.

Three Quakers competed in the B Final of the 200 IM as Vanessa Chong (2:03.08) came in fifth and she was followed by Izzy Pytel (2:03.31) in sixth and Anna Boeckman (2:03.52) was eighth.

Rachel Maizes was third in the C Final of the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.06.  

Margot Kaczorowski (23.50) and Camryn Carter (23.51) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the B Final of the 50 free.

Anderson Myers was sixth in the C Final of the 50 free with a time of 23.68.

Olivia Francella finished fifth in the 1M diving event with a score of 254.45 in the A Final.

To close the night, the Penn 200 free relay of Margot Kaczorowski, Lia Thomas, Hannah Kannan and Camryn Carter came in fourth thanks to touching at 1:32.45.

Day three of the Ivy League championships gets underway on Friday with the prelims starting at 11:00 a.m. followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m.
