AKRON, Ohio – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team gained ground in the team standings after the second day of competition at the Zippy Invitational Friday.
After finishing out Thursday in third place, the Quakers are now second after two days following strong swims all around, especially from the distance contingency, placing six in the top eight of the 500-yard freestyle A-Final.

Anna Kalandadze was the pied piper of the 500 free, taking home first place with an NCAA B-Cut time of 4:42.45. She was followed closely by teammate
Anna Moehn (4:50.06) in second,
Catherine Buroker (4:51.47) in third and
Sydney Bergstrom (4:52.99) in fourth. Also rounding out the top eight were
Lyndsey Reeve (4:59.34) in seventh and
Sophie Henriksen (5:00.84) in eighth.
*In the B-Final of the 500 free,
Bridget O'Leary placed fourth at 4:59.92,
Emma Stolberg in seventh at 5:02.41 and Hadley Debruyn clocked in at 5:01.87 to get fourth in the C-Final.

Vanessa Chong (seventh, 2:02.47) and
Izzy Pytel (eighth, 2:04.95) repped the Quakers in the A-Final of the 200 IM Friday.
Joy Jiang (2:05.13) and
Anna Moehn (2:07.37) placed fifth and eighth, respectively in the C-Final.
*Penn got three of the top five finishers in the B-Final of the 50 free with
Margot Kaczorowski (23.29) getting first,
Amber Smith (23.33) got second with
Abby Wickersham (23.47) placing fifth.
*Smith, Pytel, Chong and Kaczorowski came in sixth place in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:43.65.
*Host Akron remains tied to the pole position (746 points), while Penn overtook Buffalo for second (588.5). The Bulls are third at 577 points with Oakland in fourth (473.5), Cornell in fifth (422), Clarion in sixth (236) and Keiser in seventh (217).

It'll be more of the same on Saturday with the continuation of individual events at the Zippy Invitational. Preliminary heats begin at 9 a.m. with the finals getting started at 6 p.m.
Saturday events include the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, three-meter dive and 200 free relay.
