* Penn wraps 2022 tied for the second-most wins in a season (13) in program history, joining the 2010, 1973, and 1971 teams. The 1972 team started the season 14-0-1 before falling in their first match of NCAAs.
How It Happened
Battling harsh wind that remained throughout the match, both teams struggled to find serious scoring threats in the first half.
Stitz had the best look for either side in the closing minutes when he caught the crossbar top left side with a beautiful left-footed strike from the right side 19 yards out.
The opening eight minutes of the second half belonged to the Nicks. First, in the 47th minute, Christoffersen stopped a shot from the top of the box with a full extension diving save. Less than a minute later, Christoffersen got his right hand on a bicycle kick attempt inside 12 yards, just keeping it off the goal line while a handful of Quakers assisted with the denial.
Five minutes later, off Penn's first corner kick of the match, Stitz lofted a ball into the box kept aloft by Korzeniowski. With the keeper off his line, Schimbeno launched himself over an Orange defender and headed home the first goal of the match.
Syracuse equalized at the hour mark, which is how the score remained through regulation. Less than a minute into extra time, a misplay in the Quaker end of the field led to a go-ahead goal from the Orange.
Penn took three shots over the final 19 minutes, but were unable to equalize, ending their season at 13-3-2.
