Men's Squash Sweeps Western Ontario; Women Win Nail-biter Against Stanford

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams each picked up critical wins on Saturday, with the men sweeping Western Ontario 9-0 in the morning at home and the women taking a thrilling 5-4 match against Stanford from Squash on Fire in Washington, D.C.

The women's match in the evening was a tale of two halves of the line-up with each of the top four losing and each of the bottom five picking up the win. Grace Lavin picked up a 3-0 win that included an 11-0 first game and 11-1 third game. Eujung Park and Emma Wolf each picked up 3-0 wins with relative ease, and Navmi Sharma picked up a hard-fought 3-0 win, including a 13-11 second game. Penelope Oh took the first two games of her match, dropped the next two, then responded with a resounding 11-3 win in the fifth game. The Quakers have now won two straight in the series after dropping three of four from 2017-2019.

On the men's side, Nick Spizzirri made quick work of his match at #1, winning 3-0 in just 16 minutes, tied for the quickest match of the day. Saksham Choudhary and Rehan Luthra added 3-0 wins at #4 and #7 for the Quakers. A 3-1 win for Oliver Green at #6 quickly followed by 3-0 wins from Nathan Kueh at #2, Tushar Shahani at #9 and Shaam Gambhir at #8 put the match away and then some. Omar Hafez at #3 and Dana Santry at #5 closed the day with 3-0 and 3-1 wins, respectively. Playing the Mustangs for the first time since 2013, Penn picked up its first win in the last four matches in the series.

The teams will be back in action against Tufts from the Penn Squash Center tomorrow starting at 11 AM..
