* Penn's unbeaten streak ended at 10, following nine wins and one draw since a 1-0 loss to Albany on September 9. Penn's two losses this season have come in matches they've out-shot the opposition 45-16, including a 13-8 margin in shots on goal.
* Penn allowed more than two goals for just the fourth time since the start of 2018; two of those instances have come against Harvard.
* The Quakers lost a match when scoring at least two goals for the first time since November 8, 2014 against Princeton. They'd gone 32-0-6 when scoring two goals (or more) since.
*
Isaac McGinnis scored just his second goal of the season and fourth of his career, with all four coming in the last two years. It was also his first career Ivy League goal.
*
Stas Korzeniowski scored for the fourth time in the last five matches, and his third straight Ivy League match. He's now tied with
Ben Stitz for team lead with nine. One more goal would make either player the first Quaker with at least 10 goals in a season since Steven Marcinkiewicz had 12 in 1995.
How It Happened
Penn struck first in the 12th minute when McGinnis put home a feed from
Jack Rosener after a great individual effort from Rosener saved the ball from going over the endline.
Just over 10 minutes later, Harvard knotted the match, but Korzeniowski un-knotted it 39 seconds later off an assist from
Charlie Gaffney.
Neither side found the net the rest of the half, as the Quakers carried the lead into the locker room, Consistent possession and a strong attack kept the Crimson from putting much of a rush together until the 72nd minute when a Harvard header tied the match once again. Harvard had a look for the lead a few minutes later, but a sprawling save from
Nick Christoffersen kept the match tied.
Two long passes, one from deep in the Harvard end to midfield and a second from midfield into the 18-yard box created a go-ahead goal for Harvard in the 85th minute.
Penn's offense generated two corner kicks and two shots on goal down the stretch, but the Red and Blue were unable to find the back of the net for the equalizer.
Up Next
Penn hosts Columbia next Saturday, November 5 at 5:00 p.m. from Penn Park. The team will honor its members of the Class of 2023 before the match.
