BOSTON – The University of Pennsylvania rowing programs completed racing at the Head of the Charles, which took place this weekend on the Charles River. The racing was highlighted by the women's 'A' boat in the Championship Eights and the lightweight's 'A' boat in the Lightweight Fours, both of which finished tops among American colleges in their respective fields.

Women
The Quakers rowed in the Club Fours on Saturday. The team had the 14 bow entering their race and finished 15th out of 51 boats in the division with a time of 19:03.440. Vesta 'A' had the fastest boat, clocking 18:20.763 which was a few seconds ahead of Georgetown 'A' (18:22.729) and Boston University 'A' (18:23.364).
On Sunday, the Quakers started with their Fours finishing second among American colleges with a time of 17:43.415. USRowing won the open division in 16:48.415, with Brown the top American college in second (17:22.921) and Canada's Calgary RC third (17:25.280).
In the Eights, Penn's 'A' boat had the 5 bow but finished tops among American colleges and second overall in the division. The Quakers clocked 15:15.491 and finished behind only Leander Rowing Club from the United Kingdom, which finished just ahead with a time of 15:14.224. Penn's time was well ahead of third-place University of Washington (15:20.996), fourth-place Brown (15:21.843), and fifth-place Princeton (15:25.275). Penn's boat was coxed by

Josie Konopka, and also featured
Samy Morton (7 seat),

Penn's 'B' boat in the 29-boat division had the 21 bow but finished 16th, clocking 15:56.113.
Lightweight Men
The Quakers had the fastest boat among American colleges in the Lightweight Fours, the 'A' boat clocking 15:58.089 to finish third overall behind Canadian boats British Columbia (15:45.870) and Brock University (15:52.418). That boat was coxed by
Claire Yoo, stroked by
Thomas Russell and included
Jerod Bayly (3 seat),
Niels Terwiesch (2) and
Frank Luo (bow). Penn's 'B' boat was seventh overall in 16:08.342.
In the Eights, Penn's 'A' boat was the 7 bow and finished exactly there, in seventh, in a time of 14:32.175. The Quakers' 'B' boat finished 15th in 15:19.020. Harvard won the division in 13:59.587, followed by Princeton (14:04.051) and Yale (14:07.849).
Heavyweight Men
Penn had just one boat competing on Sunday, in the Championship Eights. The Quakers had the 17 bow and finished 20th with a time of 14:13.315. USRowing's 'A' boat was the winner in this open division, clocking 13:23.638 which was nearly 10 seconds ahead of the highest-ranking college boat, from Syracuse (13:33.315).
