PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women won two divisions at Sunday's Navy Day Regatta. The three-mile, head-style racing took place on the Schuylkill River.

Penn's victories came in the Women's Collegiate Eights—the Quakers going 1-2 among 30 crews in that division—and the Women's Collegiate Fours.
"It was a special weekend for our team, with the dedication of the Burk-Bergman Boathouse and a gathering of our amazing Penn rowing community," said head coach
Wesley Ng. "We had excellent conditions for our opening race and gained valuable experience with four Eights and three coxed Fours."
Penn's A boat clocked 11:59.97 and easily posted the best time in the division. The boat was coxed by
Sophia Poersch, stroked by
Josie Konopka, and also included
Samy Morton (7 seat),
Brooke Caragher (6),
Simone Vorperian (5),
Hannah Lemanowicz (4),
Catherine Moore (3),
Alessandra Bennion (2), and
Caroline Soska (bow). Penn's B boat had the second-best time (12:22.50) and was stroked by
Kate Maietta. Georgetown was a distant third, in 12:43.54, while Temple was fourth in 12:44.23.
In the Fours, Penn's A boat clocked 13:33.34 which had them finishing more than four seconds ahead of second-place Temple (13:37.75). The boat was coxed by
Claire Devine, stroked by freshman
Evan Humphrey, and also included
Bianca Granitto (3 seat),
Emma Gray (2), and
Christina Kamenev (bow). The Quakers' B boat was fifth in the 40-boat division at 14:01.19, while their C boat was 12th in 14:16.90.
Penn also had two boats compete in the Women's Collegiate JV Eights division, the A boat finishing fourth out of 14 boats overall in 13:29.34 and the B boat taking sixth in 13:43.42. Temple won that division in 13:10.22, ahead of second-place Drexel and third-place Georgetown.
Penn will be back in action next weekend at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
