How It Happened
Penn found itself trailing early in the matchup, with the Bears scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes.
Â
The second quarter is when the Quakers came to life and started the stretch of three unanswered goals. In the 19th minute, the Kuzyk-Russo connections started the entertainment for Penn. Russo bringing the ball in on the left side of the circle, found Kuzyk in the middle who redirected the pass into the back of the cage.
Â
The Bears took a narrow 2-1 lead into the half, but it wasn't long after the restart that Penn put away the equalizer. Less than five minutes into the third quarter, the play was called dead in the middle of the circle, awarding the Quakers with a penalty stroke. Freedman stepped up for the shot, sending a perfect top-shelf finish into the left side of the cage to draw the score even, 2-2.
Â
All knotted up in the final frame, Penn broke the tie with another Kuzyk-Russo finish. In transition, Russo pulled the keeper out on her as she entered the circle. Russo flipped the ball over the keeper's stick, landing the chipped pass to Kuzyk who shoved it into the back of the cage for the game-winner. Â
