Gymnastics Leaps Into 2022 Season at Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania Gymnastics team opened the season by finishing in third-place at the 2022 Keystone Classic hosted by Temple thanks to posting a team score of 191.300 on Friday evening at McGonigle Hall.

Nationally ranked Penn State won with a score of 194.275 and the host Owls finished in second at 193.450.

BARS | Penn 46.700
In her collegiate debut, freshman Isabel Song led the way for the Quakers on the uneven bars with a score of 9.600 on Penn's first rotation in a competitive meet in 672 days. Sophomore Connie Hsu also delivered a strong performance in her first action for the Red and Blue, registering a score of 9.550. Following Hsu were sophomore twins Ana Kenefick (9.425) and Sara Kenefick (9.325).

BEAM | Penn 48.075
In their second rotation of the night, the Quakers had all six competitors score over 9.550. Sophomore Kristen Kuhn recorded the highest score for Penn on the beam with a 9.675 and she was followed closely by Campbell Marr (9.625), Sara Kenefick (9.600) and Kiersten Belkoff (9.600). Senior captains Natalie Yang (9.575) and Sydney Kraez (9.55) also had strong showings for Penn in the event.

FLOOR | Penn 48.150
Sydney Kraez posted the best score for Penn on the floor with a mark of 9.725. Junior Ariyana Agarwala put together a solid routine and recorded a score of 9.675 to edge fellow Quaker Olivia VanHorn (9.625). Sara Kenefick (9.575) and Isabel Song (9.550) were the other scorers to earn points for the Red and Blue.

VAULT | Penn 48.375
The Quakers capped the first meet of the year with all six competitors posting scores of 9.625 or better. Isabel Song put the exclamation point on a great first night of collegiate action with a team-high mark of 9.775. Sydney Kraez, Kiersten Belkoff, Ariyana Agarwala and Olivia VanHorn all recorded scores of 9.650 while Rose DeBarberie registered a score of 9.625.

Penn heads to Washington, D.C. to take part in the Lindsey Ferry Invitational on Sunday, January 16. The quad-meet gets underway at 1:00 p.m. and features North Carolina, Cornell and host George Washington.
