PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team got an early goal in Friday night's Commonwealth Derby against Penn State, but the Nittany Lions responded with two second-half goals to escape Rhodes Field with a 2-1 victory.
The loss was Penn's first of the season as the Quakers fell to 2-1-0 on the young season, while PSU is now 3-1-1.

*Senior
Isaac McGinnis had Penn's goal on Friday night, the first of his collegiate career.
*Graduate student
Joey Bhangdia, who had two goals last Monday against Colgate, led the Quakers with three shots on Friday night. Overall, Penn had eight shots but McGinnis' goal was the only one that landed on target.
At the other end,
Dane Jacomen had three saves in the Penn cage.
How It Happened
McGinnis' goal was a bit of a gift, but he certainly earned it. Taking a pass near midfield, the senior charged down the field, turned right just above the box and fired a shot that slipped under Penn State goalkeeper Kris Shakes and into the net. That lead held through the remainder of the period.
Penn State didn't need much time in the second half to draw level. A long ball was played down the right side, and Peter Mangione beat Penn goalkeeper
Dane Jacomen to it. With Jacomen out of position, Mangione found Andrew Privett at the top of the box and he curled a shot past two Quakers defenders to make it 1-1 at 51:42.
Both teams created chances after that, but it was the Nittany Lions who found the late winner. With just under 10 minutes left in regulation, Penn stopped a PSU attack near the top of the box, but the clear was unsuccessful. An Alex Stevenson headball was found by Liam Butts, who one-timed a shot past Jacomen's right and inside the far post.
