PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team lost the doubles point but roared back to win all six singles matches—five of them in straight sets—to defeat Villanova, 6-1, on Friday at the Hamlin Tennis Center. With the win, the Quakers improved to 1-1 on the shortened 2021 season.
The Wildcats (5-8) took the doubles points with 6-4 wins at Nos. 2 and 3. At No. 1 doubles,
Zach Smith and
Jason Hildebrandt took a 6-2 decision over the Villanova team of Alex Kim and Ryan Nguyen.
The only singles match that was extended came at No. 2, where Hildebrandt won the first set 6-3 but fell in the second, 6-4. In the third-set tiebreak, he defeated Josh Robinson 10-7.
Penn is back in action on Saturday, hosting Drexel at 2 p.m.
