PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team upended visiting Villanova, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Hamlin Tennis Center.
The Quakers (3-2) took all three doubles matches and won five of six in singles action to earn their second win over the Wildcats (8-9) this spring. All three of Penn's wins in 2021 have come at home.
The Penn tandem of
Harsh Parikh and
Aditya Gupta cruised to a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles to give Penn the early edge. At No. 1,
Zach Smith and
Jason Hildebrandt outlasted Alex Kim and Daniel Martinez, 7-5, to clinch the first point of the day. The Quaker duo of
Jeff Zucker and
Jonah Jurick also scored a 7-5 win at No. 3.
In singles action, Smith, Hidlebrandt and Zucker won in straight sets at No. 1, 3 and 5, respectively.
Aditya Gupta earned a 5-7, 6-2 and 6-3 come-from-behind victory at No. 2 for the hosts.
