Baseball Edged at La Salle, 6-4, on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team lost on the road to La Salle, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Quakers (3-7) saw their two-game winning streak versus the Explorers (17-11) come to an end with the setback.

Most of the offense on the day came during the opening frame. Penn got things started in the top of the first with a pair of runs on two hits. With two outs and the bases loaded, Craig Larsen hit a ball to short and a throwing error resulted in Tommy Courtney and Andrew Hernandez coming around to score.

In the home half of the stanza, La Salle answered with four runs. The Explorers had four hits and worked four walks as they chased Quaker starter Sam Bennett after two-thirds of an inning.

In the third inning, La Salle added an insurance run to take a 5-2 advantage.

Penn would answer back quickly with two runs in the fourth courtesy of an RBI triple from Seth Werchan and a run-scoring single from Cole Palis.

The Explorers capped the scoring on the day with a run in the fifth.

In the top of the ninth, the Quakers threatened as Andrew Hernandez hit a two-out double to bring the tying run to the plate. La Salle reliever Colin Yablonski got out of it with a game-ending groundout.
