ROCHESTER – The top-ranked University of Pennsylvania men's squash team posted a ninth straight win to open the season and close out the 2021 portion of its schedule with an 8-1 victory over #10 Rochester Saturday afternoon.
The 300+ mile trip did little to slow the Quakers, who won four of the first five matches 3-0.
Dillon Huang and
Shaam Gambhir won all six of their games decisively, none ending closer than 11-6. After
Nick Spizzirri dropped his match at #3,
Dana Santry and
Nathan Kueh responded with two more wins, putting Penn up 4-1.
Aly Abou Eleinen dropped the first game of his match, but answered back in dominating fashion, dropping just 10 points total over the next three games, clinching the team win for the Quakers.
Saksham Choudhary followed with Penn's fifth 3-0 win of the afternoon.
In the penultimate match of the day,
Yash Bhargava went up 2-0, but dropped the third and fourth games, setting up a winner-take-all fifth, which Bhargava took 11-5. With the win, Bhargava became the first player in Penn men's squash history to win 50 matches.
Andrew Douglas closed out the afternoon with a razor-thin 3-0 victory, each game requiring extra points. In an exhibition contest,
