PHILADELPHIA – Twelve members of the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team earned All-CSFL honors as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning. It marked the third straight season that 12 Quakers garnered end-of-the-year accolades from the CSFL.
The Red and Blue had one major award winner for the second season in a row as senior WR
Brendan McCaffrey was tabbed as the 2021 CSFL Special Teams Player of the Year.
McCaffrey earned first team honors at both WR and KR for Penn. Joining him on the first team were senior RB

First Team
Brendan McCaffrey earned first team All-CSFL honors as both a receiver and a returner. He caps an impressive career for the Red and Blue by earning All-CSFL distinction for the second time. In 2021, he caught 14 passes for 503 yards and six touchdowns. He led the CSFL in yards per catch (35.9) and he had a TD in each of the team's first four games. McCaffrey led the CSFL in yards per kick return (27.3) and he averaged more than seven yards per punt return.
Laquan McKever earned first team All-CSFL honors for the second season in a row. This fall, he rushed for 772 yards and 11 TDs. He also caught 10 passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns. He ranked second in the CSFL in rushing yards per game (110.3), yards per carry (6.0) and rushing TDs. He was named the CSFL Co-Offensive Player of the Week on October 25. McKever also led the CSFL with 78 total points.
Ben Klaus had a breakout season for the Quakers, picking up all-league recognition for the second straight season. Klaus caught 29 passes for 413 yards and a team-high eight TDs. He had three games this autumn with two or more touchdown grabs including recording a career-high three TDs in a win over Alderson Broaddus on October 29. He finished the year second in the CSFL in touchdown receptions. He was named the CSFL Co-Offensive Player of the Week on November 1.
Max Khozozian and
Kaden Stenger were anchors for a Penn offensive line that ranked second in the CSFL in rushing yards per game (167.6) and rushing TDs (19). Both linemen started every game this season and earned All-CSFL honors for the first time.
Lewis Evans was a force in the middle on the defensive side of the ball for the Red and Blue, earning All-CSFL honors for the second season in a row. Evans finished the year with 65 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss (TFL), 1.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one interception. He had 10 or more tackles in three games for the Quakers and he was named the CSFL Defensive Player of the Week on October 11.
Jake Inserra made an immediate impact for the Penn defense in his first season with the Quakers. Inserra ended the year with 74 total tackles, 6.5 TFLs, one sack, one forced fumble and two pass breakups. He had 11 or more tackles in five games this autumn and he was twice honored as the CSL Defensive Player of the Week. He was recognized once as the CSFL Rookie of the Week. Inserra led the league in total tackles and tackles per game (10.6).
Second Team
Andrew Paolini had a monster season under center for Penn in his first season as the team's starting QB. Paolini ended his junior campaign with 1,358 passing yards and 19 TDs through the air while throwing just four interceptions. He also rushed for 181 yards and six TDs. He was twice recognized during the autumn as the CSFL Offensive Player of the Week. He led the CSFL in passing TDs in 2021.
Sam Mintz capped his career with the Quakers in style, earning league-wide distinction for the first time. Defensively, he finished the year with 21 tackles, 16 of which were solo stops, nine pass breakups and three interceptions. He led the CSFL in passes defended (12), pass breakups (9) and interceptions (3). He also had a blocked punt and a fumble recovery against Caldwell.
Honorable Mention
Travis Legum earned All-CSFL honors for the first time in his career after finishing 2021 with 26 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries (QBH). He had two sacks and two QBHs in a win over Cornell at home and he also had a season-high 3.0 TFLs in road win at Alderson Broaddus.
Cam Janock had a strong first season with the Quakers, getting better with every game at linebacker for the Red and Blue. Janock ended the autumn with 44 tackles, 6.0 TFLs, one interception, three QBHs and seven pass breakups. He had five tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception and three pass breakups in a road victory against Alderson Broaddus. He ranked fourth in the CSFL in pass breakups.
Luca Curran ended his tenure with Penn on a high note, garnering All-CSFL accolades for the second time in his career. Curran closed out the fall with 37 total tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and four pass breakups. He one interception and two pass breakups in win over Chestnut Hill on the road.
