Men's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Defeat at Brown

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 Ivy League road contest to the Brown Bears Saturday afternoon.

Senior Dane Jacomen had four saves for the Quakers, freshman Stas Korzeniowski had two shots on goal, and the trio of Ben Stitz, Isaac McGinnis, and Nick Schimbeno all had one shot on goal.

Quaker Notemeal
*Saturday marked just the second Brown-Penn match since 2012 that did not go to overtime; Penn was 2-4-2 in the eight matches during that span.

*In his 22nd appearance as a Quaker, the backliner Schimbeno registered jut his second career shot on goal.

How It Happened
Neither side registered a shot on goal until the 17th minute when Paul Elliott fired a 25-yard right-footed volley of an attempted clearance into the lower right corner just past a diving Jacomen. An additional five minutes without an on-target attempt followed before Owen Schwartz knocked in a loose ball from inside the six-yard box off a corner kick, doubling the Bears' lead. That was the last shot on goal of the half.

Korzeniowski had a good look on a header in the 50th minute, but Brown keeper Max Waldau was in position for the save. McGinnis headed a well-placed cross from graduate RC Williams in the 58th minute toward the right post, but Waldau scrambled for the sprawling save. At the end of the 75th/start of the 76th, the Quakers had a pair of chances from in close, but freshman Leo Burney had his attempt blocked and Schimbeno had his shot denied right on the goal line by Waldau. Korzeniowski had a second good look off a header in the 82nd, but Waldau managed to deflect it over the crossbar.
