Women's Golf Starts Strong, Finishes Fourth at Lady Blue Hen

Leila Dizon led after one round and tied for seventh on the weekend.
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule on Sunday with a fourth-place finish at the University of Delaware's Lady Blue Hen Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event was played at the par-72 Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
 
The defending champion in this event from 2019, Penn jumped out to the lead after Saturday's first round, shooting 5-over-par 293 as a team. The Quakers followed up with a 304 score Saturday afternoon, then 311 on Sunday. As a result, their three-round score of 911 left them behind team champion Princeton (891), second-place Harvard (902), and third-place Richmond (904).
 
Senior Leila Dizon led Penn throughout the weekend. She led the entire 72-player field after Saturday's first round following a 3-under-par 69, and followed that up with 76-79 to finish the weekend tied for seventh at 8-over-par 224. Of note, she had the second-best score in the field on par-5 holes (-3). Classmate Mary Shin (226) had Penn's low score in the second and third rounds en route to a 12th-place finish, while freshman Natalie Cao (227) was right behind her and tied for 16th in the field. Cao tied for best scoring on par-3 holes (-2), while Shin tied for third in that category (-1).
 
Sophomore Debby Chang carded 235 on the weekend and tied for 32nd, while junior Selina Li shot 242 and was 53rd in the field. Playing as an individual, junior Abigail Wiranatha shot 245 and tied for 59th.
 
Princeton golfers took the top two spots, Tiffany Kong shooting a 5-over-par 221 to finish a stroke ahead of teammate Yanjun Liu.
