Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Yale Fall Intercollegiate

Selina Li tied for 13th at Yale this weekend.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team finished sixth out of 10 teams at the Yale Fall Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event concluded Sunday afternoon at the par-71 Course at Yale.

Penn shot 312 in Sunday's final round and ended the weekend at 904. Boston College won the team championship, carding 866 over the 54 holes which was 11 strokes ahead of the host Bulldogs and Boston University who tied for second. Among the other Ivy teams in the field, Columbia was fourth (896), Dartmouth was just a stroke ahead of the Quakers in fifth (903), and Harvard was seventh (910).

Individually, freshman Natalie Cao was Penn's low scorer on the weekend as she fired an even-par 71 in the first round and ended the weekend at 8-over-par 221. That left her 10th in a field of 66 golfers. Cao was one of just five players who had an eagle on the weekend, and her scoring on par-5 holes (-5) was tied for best in the field with tournament champion Nathalie Irlbacher from BC.

Selina Li tied for 13th off a strong Saturday that included an even-par second round; she finished at 11-over-par 224 for the weekend. Mary Shin (232, +19) tied for 34th, Leila Dizon (234, +21) tied for 36th, and freshman Eunice Kim (235, +22) tied for 38th.

Three Penn players were in the field as individuals. Among that trio, sophomore Debby Chang had the best weekend as she tied for 29th with a score of 16-over-par 229. Of note, Chang was second in the field in par-3 scoring, finishing at (-3) for the weekend. Abigail Wiranatha (242, +29) and Olivia Traynor (245, +32) were the other individuals.

Irlbacher carded a 7-under-par 206 for the weekend to easily win medalist honors, as she finished five shots ahead of BU's Hanako Kawasaki who was second.

Penn returns to action next Saturday and Sunday, when the Quakers look to defend their 2019 championship at the University of Delaware's Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
