Both T&F Teams, 15 Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

PHILADELPHIA – The United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its academic honors for the 2019-20 academic year, and the University of Pennsylvania was well-represented as both the men's and women's teams were recognized with All-Academic Team honors while 15 individuals were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic list.

For individuals to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and completed at least two semesters at Penn. Athletically, they must have finished the most recent indoor season ranked in the top 96 nationally in any championship individual event or the top 48 in a championship relay event, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I descending order list on TFRRS.

The women's team led the way with eight individuals: Nia Akins, Cecil Ene, Ariana Gardizy, Lauryn Harris, Uchechi Nwogwugwu, Grace O'Shea, Melissa Tanaka and Skyla Wilson. Seven Quakers garnered distinction on the men's team: Colin Daly, Nathan Fisher, Caleb Johnson, Evan Lee, James Mirfield, Ryan Renken and Ray Sellaro.

For a team to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track & Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. The Penn men finished the 2019-20 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.37, while the women were just ahead of them at 3.46. Both teams improved on their cumulative scores from last year.
