PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania squash teams completed the 2019-20 season as the CSA Individual Championships wrapped up. While the headliner, sophomore
Aly Abou Eleinen, fell in a tight five-game match in the A Division final, junior
Yash Bhargava won the Molloy Cup (B Division) finals in the north draw, becoming the first Quakers Molloy Cup champion since
Hayes Murphy in 2016.
The Quakers dropped the first two matches they participated in as freshman
Dillon Huang fell in his B Division final, while senior
Jessica Davis fell in the consolation finals of the A Division in the only women's match of the day. Davis finishes her Penn career with 32 wins, two-first team All-Ivy recognitions and Academic All-Ivy as well.
The second half of the day proved to be full of drama, beginning with Bhargava's match. After taking the first two games, Bhargava went on the drop the next two. However, a resilient effort delivered the match victory and guaranteed that Bhargava will be named second-team All-American. Bhargava is one of several potential All-American's on the Quakers roster.
In the finale, Eleinen faced off against Marwan Tarek (Harvard) a player he previously lost to 3-0 on two occasions this season. In this match, the tables began to turn as Eleinen took the opening game 11-9. Tarek had an answer in the second winning a tight 13-11 decision, but Eleinen followed suit with a 12-10 third game win. However, in a grueling match that took nearly two hours, Eleinen fell just short, falling to Tarek and settling for the best finish by a Quaker man since 1986.
