How It Happened
Motivated following a close loss against Niagara, the Quakers turned in their most complete offensive performance, blasting through the Titans. The Quakers also took advantage of four errors by Detroit Mercy, to aid their 11 hits.
Right out of the gate,
Jennifer Brann got the scoring started by coming home off a wild pitch. The second inning was where the true breakout began, as
Corrie Phillips drove in a run on an RBI single and
Tabitha Dyer came home on another wild pitch to make it 3-0. After an RBI groundout from Brann,
Lucy Yang broke the game open with a two-run double to make it 6-0.
While Detroit Mercy was able to get a run back, the Quakers would not let up.
Bella Fiorentino kicked off the best day of her young collegiate career with an RBI double and
Kayla Ketring and
Sarah Schneider tacked on more RBI base knocks. After a two-run response by the Titans, the Quakers put their foot down, as Brann and Fiorentino recorded home runs, including a grand slam from Brann to reach 16 runs. As a result of the offensive explosion, the Quakers now have seven qualifying batters hitting .320 or above and have raised their runs per game total a full point from 6.2 to 7.2 runs per game.
What's Next
The Quakers continue play at The Spring Games with games against #12 Florida State at 9:00 a.m. and Cleveland State at 11:30 a.m. The Quakers have three more games in Florida remaining before returning home to open Ivy League play.
