NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team has completed play at the Bash at The Beach Tournament. The 54-hole event concluded Tuesday at the par-72 Surf Golf and Beach Club. Penn had all 13 players on the roster in the event, with two five-man teams and three in the field as individuals.
The Quakers' low scorer over the 54-hole event was junior
Brandon Wang, who was in the field as an individual. He shot a 1-under-par 71 in Tuesday's final round and ended the tournament at 1-under-par 215 which left him tied for 20th in a field of 104 golfers overall.
Penn's B team finished 13th overall and was led by freshman
Harrison Ornstein, whose final-round 75 left him at 219 for the tourney and tied for 38th in the field. Classmate
Andy Fan also shot 75 on Tuesday and ended the week at 226, while freshman
Anthony Basilio had the team's best Tuesday score (74) and shot 232 in the event. Sophomore
Jason Fan's was the team's other scorer on Tuesday with a 76, while
Caleb Blackburn carded a final-round 89.
Penn's A team was 15th in the field and was led by junior
Mitchell Cornell, who shot a team-low 75 on Tuesday and ended the tournament tied for 56th at 223. Sophomores
Jason Langer and
Carter Prince both shot 78 on Tuesday and ended the event at 230 and 240, respectively, while sophomore
Mark Haghani was one shot behind the duo with a final-round 79. Senior
Eric Ganshaw carded an 85.
Among the other Penn players playing the tournament as individuals, freshman
Jeff Tian shot 81 on Tuesday and classmate
Simon Markowitz carded an 84.
UNC-Wilmington took the team title, sharing top honors with Jacksonville State through the regulation 54 holes before defeating the Gamecocks on the first playoff hole. The Seahawks' Agustin Segundo Oliva Pinto was the individual medalist, as he finished the tournament at 11-under-par 205 which was a stroke ahead of Louisville's Devin Morley and two ahead of Jacksonville State's Jesus Montenegro.
Penn's next scheduled event is the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, a 54-hole event hosted annually by William & Mary and slated for March 22-24 in Williamsburg, Va.
