NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team suffered a Howe Cup finale defeat, falling 5-4 to #7 Drexel on Sunday morning. The loss places the Quakers in eighth place for the second straight season.
The Quakers were able to jump out to an early lead, thanks to some terrific play in the bottom half of the lineup.
Haley Scott delivered one of her most impressive matches this season, steamrolling to a 3-0 win. After the Dragons got one back,
Julia Buchholz delivered a clutch victory, coming back from 1-2 down to win 11-9 in the fifth game and give the Quakers the 2-1 lead.
Lindsay Stanley and
Navmi Sharma quickly followed up the Buchholz win with victories of their own, with Sharma winning yet another five-game match. However, the Dragons slowly chipped away at the Quakers lead, with a couple of tight losses going in the wrong direction. The Dragons secured the final point in a tight four-game victory.
