Wrestling Hosts #11 Lehigh in Regular Season Finale

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling program closes out its EIWA slate and regular season on Thursday night at The Palestra. The Quakers will look to make a statement ahead of the EIWA Championships in March as they welcome No. 11 Lehigh with the dual slated to start at 7 p.m.

Penn is 6-8 on the season and 5-5 in EIWA duals after going 1-2 following a trio of duals last weekend. Despite losses to No. 14 Princeton and Drexel on Saturday, the Quakers bounced back on Sunday with a dominating win over Franklin & Marshall.

Penn (6-8, 5-5 EIWA, 2-3 Ivy League) vs. No. 11 Lehigh (10-3, 6-1 EIWA)
Thursday, Feb. 20 | 7 p.m. | The Palestra | ESPN+ | Tickets

  • Last weekend, Penn had three wrestlers feature in the second NCAA Coaches' Panel and five in the first RPI of the season. Michael Colaiocco headlined the group, coming in at No. 8 in the Coaches Panel and No. 5 in the RPI. Colaiocco became the second Penn wrestler to reach 20 wins this season with a trio of decisions last weekend, including major decisions against Drexel and Franklin & Marshall. He is now 20-5 on the season and 9-2 in duals with wins in each of his last six matches.
  • Sophomore Doug Zapf has seen an incredible surge in his second year with the Red and Blue. The 141-pounder featured at No. 17 in the latest Coaches Panel and checked in at No. 23 in the RPI. After a pair of wins last weekend, he is now 24-5 on the season and has won each of his last 15 matches. The last time Zapf was defeated was a blood-round exit at the Midlands Championships on December 30, 2019.
  • The Quakers have boasted their young talent throughout the season, starting no fewer than five underclassmen in duals this season. Penn averages 7.8 underclassmen starting in duals this season and has had a starting lineup feature eight or more underclassmen 10 times.
  • Cole Urbas (197 lbs, No. 32) and Ben Goldin (285 lbs, No. 33) also featured in the NCAA RPI rankings. Urbas is the only wrestler to start in each of Penn's 14 duals this season and has built a 16-11 record this season with a 9-5 dual record. Goldin is 12-9 on the season and 4-2 in duals. Goldin has missed each of Penn's last seven duals with an injury but will look to mark his return ahead of the EIWA Championships.

Looking at Lehigh
  • The Mountain Hawks enter the weekend with a 10-3 dual record and boast one of the strongest schedules in the country. Nine of Lehigh's 13 opponents were ranked heading into the matchup, and the Mountain Hawks took victory in six of those nine. Lehigh still has one ranked dual on the docket as it hosts No. 5 Arizona State at Grace Hall on Friday, Feb. 21.
  • The Quakers are 10-47-1 all-time against the Mountain Hawks. Penn last defeated Lehigh in the 2012-13 season with a 24-12 victory at Grace Hall. The Quakers last took down the Mountain Hawks at The Palestra with a 24-15 win during the 2007-08 season.
  • Unless Ben Goldin wrestles No. 5 Jordan Wood in the heavyweight match, there will be no rematches from last year's 34-6 loss to Lehigh.
