PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team capped its home meet schedule with a triumph on Senior Day at the Palestra on Sunday morning, defeating Bridgeport, West Chester and William & Mary.
Rebekah Lashley and Darby Nelson highlighted the day with wins on floor and beam, respectively, as Penn combined for a total of 193.425.
VAULT | Penn 48.275
Penn opened on vault and started with a quality rotation. Sophomore Sydney Kraez led the way with a 9.800 was one of five Quakers to finish with at least a 9.550. Rose Hoffman wasn't far behind Kraez with a 9.750 and Jordyn Mannino earned a 9.650. Lauren Joost and Lashley finished with a 9.550 and 9.525, respectively.
BARS | Penn 48.150
Penn's level dipped a bit in the second rotation, but both McCaleigh Marr and Rose Hoffman earned themselves a score of 9.800 and Libby Garfoot and Alex Kothe, in her final meet at The Palestra, scored 9.600's to keep the Quakers in contention.
BEAM | Penn 48.200
Nelson stole the show on the beam with a 9.775, easily winning the event by .500. Nelson was one of just two gymnasts to finish with better than a 9.700. Behind West Chester's best score, Marr and Matsuda placed third and fourth overall with scored of 9.650 and 9.625, respectively. Kraez and Lashley rounded out Penn's five with scores of 9.600 and 9.550.
FLOOR | Penn 48.800
On the final rotation of the day, Penn surged back to earn the victory with all scorers earning at least a 9.625. Lashley won the floor with a score of 9.875, just barely edging second-place Mannino with a 9.850, setting the time for a brilliant rotation. Matsuda finished with a 9.775 while Kellie Flavin and Kraez sealed the victory for the Quakers.
