PHILADELPHIA – To honor the 50-year career of recently retired University of Pennsylvania sprint football head coach Bill Wagner, the Penn Champions Club called on members of the sprint football community to create an All-Wags Team for each of the five decades (1970s through the 2010s) the tenured coach served at the helm.

We are happy to announce the fourth of these five teams. The All-Wags 2000s team consists of 62 alumni with 33 players recognized on offense, 25 players recognized on defense and three specialists honored.

"The players took the winning ways of the 1990s and started off with an undefeated 2000 Team that beat both Navy and Army and didn't look back for the next ten years," Wagner of his teams in the 2000s. "The talent level of this group was tremendous, the increase in the number of players, the expansion of the league and the continued support of the alumni was now set in 'stone'. Penn Sprint Football was a winning program with years of success in the CSFL with more to follow."

The All-Wags 2000s First Team featured 13 players on offense, 13 on defense, a kicker and a punter. During the decade, the Quakers captured the 2000 CSFL championship thanks to an undefeated campaign. The Red and Blue also brought home five Ivy League titles in a six-year stretch.

In total, 271 ballots were submitted. The player appearing on the most ballots was first-team QB Mike D'Angelo W'09. D'Angelo was a two-time Team MVP ('07 & '08) and a two-time First- Team All-League honoree.

Joining D'Angelo in the backfield on the first team are running backs Mark Gannon C'03 and JT Hutchinson C'07.

A trio of wide receivers landed on the first team led by Pat Monaghan C'05. Monaghan ranks third all-time at Penn in receiving yards and he also ranks third in most receiving yards in a single game. The other two wideouts on the first team are Jeff Bagnoli C'03 and Clarke Armatis W'10.

A pair of tight ends tied in the voting. Both Tim Murphy C'04 and Scott Moore C'01 were honored on the first team. Moore was the CSFL MVP following a stellar season in 2000.

Up front, the first-team offensive linemen were Brian Dubin W'02, Ben Drane C'06, Adam Smiley C'02, Brian O'Connell C'09 and David Berkley C'02. Dubin was a three-time First Team All-League honoree during his tenure with the Quakers.

In the trenches, the first-team defensive line featured John Pinto C'04, Doug Pires C'05, Kevin Manning C'01, Andrew Migdail C'08 and Nick Kopec ENG'06. Pinto was a four-time First-Team All-League standout and was named the Team MVP in 2003.

The first team linebackers were Nick Dinges W'07, John Clark C'01, Mike McMullen C'10 and Kevin Piro C'06.

Andrew Feigenbaum C'09 highlighted a quartet of players in the secondary. Feigenbaum was a three-time All-League honoree. The other ballhawks in the first-team secondary were Brad Gusich C'01, Rob Lombardi W'07 and Dave Lopez C'07.

Kicker Pete Stine W'07 and punter Mike Loguidice C'07 rounded out the 2000s All-Wags First Team.
