Series Information
Penn leads 1-0-1 | Last meeting: 2018 (0-0 draw)
Penn and Marist have met twice before Monday's contest, with the first game coming in 2006 as part of the Mayor's Cup, hosted by Hartwick. There, the Quakers claimed the trophy after beating the Red Foxes 4-0. Last season, the Red and Blue visited Marist in Poughkeepsie and battled to a 0-0 draw. Penn is already 1-0 this season against the MAAC after beating Monmouth in the season opener.
Killer Kai
Freshman
Kai Lammers was the only freshman to appear in the starting lineup for Penn against the Hawks, and he immediately made his presence felt, netting the first goal of the season in the ninth minute. Lammers is the first freshman to score in a season opener for Penn since
Austin Kuhn scored against Drexel in 2014.
Picking Up Where He Left Off
Last season,
Brandon Bartel led the Ivy League with six assists en route to honorable mention All-Ivy accolades. The senior captain wasted no time in adding another assist to his name, serving up the helper to Lammers in Penn's first goal of the season. Bartel now owns 10 assists to his name all-time.
Two's the Magic Number
The Quakers are 4-0 when scoring at least two goals since
Brian Gill took over as head coach last season. In fact, Penn hasn't lost a game when scoring at least two goals since a 3-2 defeat at Princeton in 2014.
Joey the Junior
Junior
Joey Bhangdia owns two career goals. Each have come against Monmouth each of the last two years in the season opener of each season.
Non-Conference
Penn has lost just one non-conference game in
Brian Gill's tenure as head coach, accumulating a record of 4-1-5 against teams outside of the Ivy League since he took over.
Klutch Kohlbrenner
Jake Kohlbrenner enters his junior season with six career goals, matching
Alex Touche for the team lead of all returning players. A Kohlbrenner goal has been a sure sign of success for the Quakers, as Penn is 5-0-1 when the New York native scores.
Aye, Aye Captain
Senior
Brandon Bartel and junior
Alex Touche have been tabbed as captains for the Quakers in 2019.
Scouting the Red Foxes
Marist enters Monday's game with a 1-1 record, dropping its season opener at Jacksonville before rebounding for a 2-1 victory over Gonzaga at home on Friday night. Picked to finish fourth in the MAAC preseason poll, with two first place votes, the Red Foxes landed two players on the Preseason All-MAAC team in forward Allen Gavilanes and midfielder Samad Bounthong. Bounthong, Christian Curti and Marcus Ginman have each scored one goal this season for the Red Foxes.
