Men's Golf Finishes Play at Ryan T. Lee Memorial

SIMSBURY, Conn. – The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team teed up the fall portion of its season this weekend, with two teams totaling 10 players competing at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate. The 36-hole event took place Saturday and Sunday at the par-72 Hop Meadow Country Club.
 
Penn's A team finished in fourth place out of 17 teams, while the Quakers' B team tied for 14th. Harvard took the team title, shooting 7-under-par 569 as a team, while Columbia and Navy tied for second with both scoring 590. Penn A shot 592 as a team and was followed closely by Holy Cross (593), Bryant (594) and Iona (594). Penn B finished at 621.
 
Individually, junior Mitchell Cornell was Penn's low scorer on the weekend as he carded 74-72 to finish the tournament at 2-over-par 146. That had him tied for 12th in a field of 90 golfers. A pair of freshmen, Anthony Basilio (77-72) and Harrison Ornstein (75-74), shot 149 and tied for 25th in the field. Sophomore Mark Haghani scored for the Quakers on Saturday and ended the tournament tied for 36th with 151, while classmate Jason Langer scored on Sunday and carded 155 to tie for 57th.
 
Sophomore Carter Prince was the low scorer for Penn's B team, shooting 73-79 to finish at 152 and tied for 41st on the weekend. He was followed closely by senior Eric Ganshaw (153, t-52nd) and freshman Andy Fan (155, t-57th). Sophomore Jason Fan carded 161 for the weekend and placed 78th, while junior Brandon Wang shot 168 and tied for 84th overall.
 
Harvard players finished in the top three spots over the weekend, all three players finishing the tournament at under par. Adam Xiao won medalist honors with a 5-under-par 139, while Brian Ma and Grant Fairbairn both shot 1-under-par 143.
 
Penn is back in action next weekend and will once again have two teams competing, this time at the 54-hole Cornell Invitational which runs Saturday and Sunday on the Big Red's Robert Trent Jones course.
