Series Information
Penn leads 29-14-5 | Last meeting: 2018 (0-0, 2OT)
The series between the Quakers and Mountain Hawks dates back to a 9-3 victory for Penn in 1929. The two have played 47 times since, with Penn on top all-time, 29-14-5. Last year, the Quakers ventured to Bethlehem and walked away with a 0-0 draw, but the last time the two played on Rhodes Field, Lehigh earned a 3-0 victory in 2017. Penn is seeking its first win over Lehigh since 2009, as the previous two meetings prior to 2017 resulted in draws.
Ranked Result
Penn earned its first result against a ranked team since a 0-0 decision with No. 7 Washington to open the 2015 season on last week, earning a 1-1 draw with 24th-ranked Rutgers on Rhodes Field.
Home Cookin'
The Quakers have either won or earned a draw in seven straight matches at home on Rhodes Field.
Bhangdia's Boot
Junior
Joey Bhangdia leads the Quakers with three goals scored in five games this season, including the game-winners against Marist and Temple. His total of two game-winning goals is already 16th nationally, and his average of 3.2 shots per game is first in the Ivy League.
Flipping the Script
Last year saw Penn either tie or lose by a single goal eight times. The Quakers have started to pave a positive pathway against similar opponents this year, finding themselves on the right side previous results. For example...
2018
- 3-2 win vs. Monmouth (2 OT)
- 0-0 draw at Marist (2 OT)
- 0-0 draw at Temple (2 OT)
2019
- 2-0 at Monmouth
- 1-0 win vs. Marist
- 1-0 win vs. Temple
Reliable Connection
Brandon Bartel and
Alex Touche have become a reliable connection, particularly in set pieces, for the Quakers the last two seasons. Touche has scored six goals in his career with the Quakers -- including one last week to even the match against Rutgers -- and five of his six goals have come on assists from Bartel.
Strong Start on D
Penn has given up just two goals this season, already with three shutouts to its name. Strong defensive play has also given way to strong numbers between the pipes for starting goalkeeper
Dane Jacomen, who's save percentage of .867 and goals against average of 0.38 are both tops in the conference.
Keepin' it Clean
The Quakers rank eighth nationally in fewest amount of fouls per game, committing just under nine each time out, thus limiting set piece opportunities for their opponents.
Movin' On Up
The Quakers check in at No. 3 in the Northeast Region in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. Penn began the season outside of the top-10 in the region and is now only behind New Hampshire and Yale.
Scouting the Mountain Hawks
Lehigh enters Tuesday's matchup with an overall record of 4-2, owning wins over Manhattan, Northwestern, Seton Hall, and most recently, American. Picked to finish third in the Patriot League, Lehigh garnered votes in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 last week and is currently rated fifth in the Atlantic Region. The Mountain Hawks own eight goals, having conceded five, with Josh Luchini leading the way with four himself.
