PHILADELPHIA - In the midst of a three-match homestand on Rhodes Field, the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team will turn its attention to a Philadelphia Soccer Six rival on Saturday, hosting Temple on Sept. 21 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
MATCH DAY 5 - Temple (2-3, 0-0 American) at Penn (2-1-1, 0-0 Ivy League)
Saturday, September 21 | 7:00 p.m. | Rhodes Field | Live Stats | ESPN+
Series Information
Penn leads 22-7-7 | Last meeting: 2018 (0-0, 2OT)
The Quakers hold a 22-7-7 advantage in the all-time series with the Owls, but the two sides have played just four times since 2009, including a scoreless draw on Broad Street last season. The last match on Rhodes Field between the two came in 2015, as the 23rd-ranked Owls defeated Penn 3-0. Penn's last victory in the series came in 2014.
Reliable Connection
Brandon Bartel and
Alex Touche have become a reliable connection, particularly in set pieces, for the Quakers the last two seasons. Touche has scored six goals in his career with the Quakers, including one on Tuesday to even the match against Rutgers, and five of his six goals have come on assists from Bartel.
Ranked Result
Penn earned its first result against a ranked team since a 0-0 decision with No. 7 Washington to open the 2015 season on Tuesday night, earning a 1-1 draw with 24th-ranked Rutgers on Rhodes Field.
Home Cookin'
The Quakers have either won or earned a draw in six straight matches at home on Rhodes Field.
Two's the Magic Number
The Quakers are 4-0 when scoring at least two goals since
Brian Gill took over as head coach last season. In fact, Penn hasn't lost a game when scoring at least two goals since a 3-2 defeat at Princeton in 2014.
Bhangdia's Boot
Junior
Joey Bhangdia is off to a hot start this fall, scoring a goal in each of Penn's two wins against Monmouth and Marist. Against the Red Foxes, Bhangdia sent in the game winner in the 82nd minute, the third goal of his career. Bhangdia's average of 3.50 shots per game is tops in the Ivy League.
Keepin' it Clean
The Quakers lead the country in fewest amount of fouls per game, comitting just under eight each time out, thus limiting set piece opportunities for their opponents.
Scouting Temple
The Owls enter Saturday's match with a record of 2-3, losers of their first three games but winners of their last two. Lukas Fernandes has scored two goals this season for Temple, as the Owls have netted four goals in their last two games. Rutgers is a similar opponent for Penn and Temple this season, as the Owls fell to the Scarlet Knights 1-0 to open the season, while Penn most recently drew No. 24 Rutgers, 1-1, on Tuesday night. In goal, Simon Lefebvre has started all five games for Temple with a .722 save percentage.
