THE PENN-ARMY SERIES
- The Quakers are 4-13 all-time against Army West Point, but the two teams have not played since an 11-10 win for the Quakers in 2009.
- Army won 10 in a row between 1922-1980, but the Quakers have won four of the last seven meetings between the two teams and are 3-1 in the 2000s.
- This will mark Mike Murphy's first-ever game coaching against Army West Point.
- The two teams have met once in NCAA Championship play, Army West Point defeating Penn, 8-7, in 1984 at Franklin Field.
PENN IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
- The Quakers are making their 13th NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2014.
- Penn is 2-12 all-time in the national tournament and winless in its last five trips.
- This marks the second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance as the No. 4 seed for the Quakers. In 2014, Penn earned the No. 4 seed but was knocked off by Drexel, 16-11, at Franklin Field.
- Penn is 2-3 all-time in home games in the NCAA Championship.
- Penn has never played an overtime game in the NCAA Tournament.
STREAKING INTO MAY
The Quakers are riding a 11-game winning streak, tied for longest in the nation alongside No. 1 Penn State. Ironically, Penn State started its nine-game winning streak with a win over the Quakers and Penn has not lost since its defeat in Happy Valley.
11 consecutive wins is the second-longest streak all-time by a Penn team. Only the 1984 team put together a longer streak with 12 consecutive wins.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER
Penn has earned a No. 2 national ranking in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll entering NCAAs, a new program record for highest ranking in the Coaches Poll. The Quakers were ranked No. 3 for the final two polls of the 1984 season.
The Quakers were unranked at the beginning of the 2019 season.
6-0!
The Quakers went 6-0 in the Ivy League for the first time since 1984. The six Ivy League wins this season match Penn's total from each of the last two seasons combined.
SIMON SAYS... HE'S A TEWAARATON NOMINEE!
Senior
Simon Mathias is 1 of 25 players nominated for the Tewaaraton Award. He was joined on the Watch List for the award by
Adam Goldner and
Sam Handley.
MATHIAS MAKES HIS POINT
Simon Mathias has played in 57 career games and he has at least one point in every one of those games — the second-longest active streak in the country. Mathias has at least one goal in 34 straight games — tied for the longest active streak in the country.
THE GOLD STANDARD
Adam Goldner, more like Adam GOALdner! The junior attackman enters the weekend with 50 goals, surpassing the previous Penn record of 44 set by John Shoemaker in 1987. He had 2+ goals in 12 straight games before scoring just one in the Ivy semis, and he has at least one goal in 23 consecutive games.
DYNAMIC DUO
Between Mathias (34) and Goldner (23) the Red and Blue are the only team in the country with multiple players riding consecutive goal-scoring streaks of 20 or more games.
GALLAGHER'S GREATEST HITS
Kyle Gallagher has been dominating at the X, winning 229 of 367 FOs (.624) and picking up 140 ground balls. He has four games with 20+ wins, and he has been all but even with Yale's TD Ierlan in Penn's wins over the defending champs, winning 27 of 53.
SAM THE MAN
Freshman
Sam Handley has set a new Penn record for points in a season by a rookie with his 58 — bypassing the previous record of 42 set by
John Ward in 1995. Handley has 34 goals this season, also a record for Penn freshmen.
SNIPE CITY
Penn has set a new program record for goals in a season. The Quakers have scored 208 goals in 14 games this season, bypassing the 1988 team which scored 188 times over 15 games. Penn's 14.86 goals per game rank No. 2 in the Ivy League and No. 3 in the country.
