How it Happened
Jennifer Brann started out hot in the circle the series opener for the Quakers. The junior struck out two in the first inning and added another pair of strikeouts to end the second, bringing her total in the game to four.
Princeton opened up the scoring in the second. On a windy and rainy day at Penn Park, Kaitlyn Waslawski hit a two-run home run over the left center wall as Penn went down, 2-0 early. The Tigers added a third run in the third, but this time the Quakers answered. Back-to-back singles from
Kayla Ketring and
Sam Pederson put runners on first and second and then a
Jessica England walk loaded the bases.
Sarah Cwiertnia brought in Ketring to give the Red and Blue their first run of the day.
A two-out single in the fifth from Princeton put the Quakers deficit back to three at 4-1. The Tigers made it 5-1 in the seventh with another two-out single to take their largest lead of the afternoon.
A lead-off home run from
Corrie Phillips brought Penn back within three as she went deep to center field for the first time in her career. Hits from
Kayla Ketring and Pederson put the tying run at the plate in the game's final frame. However, the Quakers flied-out in back-to-back at-bats to end the game as they fell in the series opener.
