HOW IT HAPPENED
The Quakers edged in front of the Bears 5-0 with Aghayere tallying all five points, but the Bears kept it close, drawing within 11-9 over halfway through the period. Penn delivered a lethal blow to end the quarter, posting a 10-2 run behind two-straight 3-pointers from Sterba and an open layup from
Ashley Russell to take a 21-11 lead after one.
Brown twice cut the lead to seven in the second quarter, but that was as close as the Bears would get, as Sterba hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game in the period and Parker took over from all over the court, scoring inside, from near the arc, and driving the basket with ease. Penn held a 35-20 lead at the break following a layup from Aghayere, fed by Russell.
The knockout punch was delivered to start the second half, as Penn racked up a 9-2 run out of the locker room to extend its lead to 44-22 following a three from Aghayere.
It was all Penn from then on out, with Sterba unconscious from deep, totaling three more long balls to finish with seven on the night. A rebound and putback off her own miss from Aghayere gave the Quakers a 60-38 lead with 10 to go.
Two more field goals from Parker put the cap on another dominating performance, and a driving layup from
Deja Jackson was the cherry on the cake for Penn's championship-worthy performance.Â
