UNCG extended the lead with two RBI singles and a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame, and two more on two RBI singles in the fifth.
Penn started to rally back in the top of the seventh.
Josh Hood got things going with his first collegiate hit—a single to left center. Courtney moved Hood to third with a double down the left field line.
Peter Matt plated Hood with a single past the shortstop but was sacrificed at second as Malinowski reached first on a fielder's choice and scored Courtney.
Phelan singled to right center, and
Matt O'Neill walked to stuff the bags. Adams knocked in Malinowski and Phelan on a single over the shortstop.
Kevin Eaise retired the first two batters in the bottom of the inning.
Jacob Sadowitz relieved Ease and allowed a hit but picked off the baserunner stealing second.
Again, Hood got on base to start the inning for Penn – this time on a walk. Matt singled to right field and Hood advanced to third. After a pitching change, Malinowski doubled down the left field line to bring Hood and Matt home.
UNC Greensboro scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the frame on three bases loaded walks to regain the lead. The Spartans shut the Quakers down in the top of the ninth to end the game.
