How it Happened
Looking to come out of Sunday with a series win over the Bulldogs, the Quakers got an early jump on the scoreboard.
Jessica England singled and
Sarah Cwiertnia got on base with the help of a Yale error to put runners on first and second.
Lucy Yang took advantage with runners on as she hit a double to center field, scoring England. Freshman
Corrie Phillips brought in Cwiertnia and then Yang came home on a passed ball to give the Quakers an early, 3-0, lead.
Yale responded in the bottom of the frame scoring three runs of its own to tie the score. A Terra Jerbak double with the bases loaded brought in two runs to tie the game, 3-3.
The Quakers, however, took the lead again in the top of the second.
Laurel McKelvey led off with a single and then
Sarah Ketring followed up with a single of her own. Taking advantage of an error, McKelvey scored to put Penn up, 4-3.
Once again, the Bulldogs answered. Sydney Grobman singled to score Olivia Vineyard, tying the score, 4-4.
Penn threatened in the top of the third, but a double-play with runners on second and third ended the side. In the bottom of the frame, Dyer loaded the bases for the second time and was substituted for
Jennifer Brann. The Bulldogs added two runs as the Red and Blue went down, 6-4.
The Quakers put runners on second and third for a second consecutive innings, and once again it was a double play that left Penn scoreless.
Despite a quick, offensive start from both teams, the last 15 batters retired, including the last three for the Red and Blue to end the game.
