PHILADELPHIA - Many times this season, junior
Lindsay Stanley has had her name called to close out the match for the University of Pennsylvania women's squash team. That was once again the case on Friday evening against Cornell and once again, Stanley prevailed. With the match tied, 4-4, Stanley went on to win 3-0 to push the Quakers past the Big Red, 5-4.
How it Happened
Prior to Friday's match, the women's squash program recognized its senior class consisting of
Reeham Salah and
Mikaela Salvesen-Quinn.
Looking to get a win on senior day,
Jessica Davis got the Red and Blue on the board early with a quick, 3-0, win. Buchholz joined her soon after. The sophomore lost the opening game but came back to win the next three, 11-6, 11-5, 11-9 to win, 3-1, and put the Quakers up, 2-0. With
Clare Kearns losing a close five-game match, 11-5, in the fifth, Penn went into the second shift tied, 2-2.
After her 31 match win streak was snapped against Harvard on Sunday,
Reeham Salah bounced back with a 3-0 win. She won the first two games, 11-4, 11-6, and then toughed out a close 13-11 win in the third to win 3-0 on her senior day.
Jamila Tamer then got the fourth point for the Red and Blue with a 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 win of her own at number three. Losses from
Haley Scott and
Margaret Frantz tied the match at four apiece with on match remaining.
Stanley took control early, winning the first game 11-6 before edging out a tight 11-9 game to go up, 2-0. Playing for the seniors, the junior stayed focused and won 11-4 in the third to close out the 3-0 victory.
