PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team jumped out to a quick start on Friday night and never let Brown into it, taking a 92-82 victory over the Bears at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Penn was up 13-3 just 4:09 into the game and the lead stayed in double digits almost the entire way as Penn shot 58.5 percent from the field and knocked down 13 of its 25 three-point attempts. The largest lead was 20 points, and while it got interesting when Brown started fouling with nearly four minutes still to play the Quakers made enough foul shots to keep their hosts at bay.
Devon Goodman and
Bryce Washington led the way offensively, Goodman scoring 21 points and Washington dropping 20. The duo went a combined 7-of-10 from beyond the arc.
AJ Brodeur kept his double-figure streak alive at 15, scoring 18 points, while
Michael Wang came off the bench to score 11.
Penn is now 14-7 overall and 2-3 in Ivy League play. Brown fell to 13-8, 1-4 in Ivy play.

How It Happened
Penn shot out of the gates in Providence, as Goodman nabbed a pair of steals on one end for a pair of layups at the other to give the Quakers a 4-0 lead. Brown responded in the form of a Tamenang Choh trey, but the Quakers punched back with a 9-0 run, seven of those points coming from three consecutive Brodeur baskets.
Brown brought it within six at 16-10, but a layup from Silpe followed by a trey from Wang increased the lead back to double digits. The Bears cut Penn's lead back to seven after a Brandon Anderson layup made it 24-17, but Washington sank a trey on the following possession to extend the lead back to ten.
The Quakers extended to a 14-point lead—their largest of the half—after
Max Rothschild (9 points) drove in for two. Brown brought it within nine after an Okolie layup, but Penn regained its double-digit lead via a Wang three. Rothschild, who made his first start since the first Princeton game on January 5, closed out the half with a layup to give the Red and Blue a 12-point lead at the break.
The Quakers kept things going to start the second half. Washington hit an open three to give Penn a 49-36 lead. Brodeur stole the ball on the following possession, and Washington dished to Goodman for another trey and a 16-point lead. Brown brought it within 13 after an Obi Okolie layup made it 56-43. Penn responded immediately as Washington hit a three on the following possession.
The Quakers continued to roll, a Brodeur layup giving the Red and Blue their biggest lead at 78-58 with 5:33 to go.
It was shortly after that when Brown began fouling, and the game slowed down in the Bears' favor.
Silpe hit a pair from the strip to give Penn an 80-61 lead, but Brown broke off an 8-0 run to trim the lead to 11. Rothschild and Goodman each went 1-2 from the line to make it 82-70, But a Brown jumper cut the lead to ten.
Penn broke Brown's press and Goodman hit a layup with 1:53 left to extend the lead to 12, but Okolie hit a pair of free throws to cut Penn's lead to ten
again. This trend followed until a pair of Rothschild free throws gave the Quakers an 88-76 lead with 1:16 left, then Zach Hunsaker nailed a three to cut the lead to nine. It was the closest Brown had been the entire half, and the Bears called timeout.
Penn then turned it over on the ensuing inbounds, but Brown missed a pair of treys that could have cut it to six points. Instead, Washington rebounded the second miss and was fouled, hitting his free throws to regain an 11-point lead with 43 seconds left. Brown's Desmond Cambridge sank a trey on the following possession to cut the lead to eight. However, that ended up being Brown's last field goal of the game as the Bears missed their final two three-point attempts after Washington knocked down two more freebies.
