Women's Squash Finishes Eighth at Howe Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 6 University of Pennsylvania women's squash team did not get the result it was looking for over the weekend at the Howe Cup. After a loss to No. 3 Trinity on Friday, the Quakers fell to No. 7 Columbia and finally No. 8 Drexel to finish eighth in the Howe Cup.

How it Happened

On Saturday against Columbia, the Quakers looked to match their result from the week before in which they beat the Lions, 5-4. However, Jamila Tamer, Lindsay Stanley, and Nicole Windreich all fell in five games in what was a 6-3 loss.

Tamer and Stanley each led two games to one before falling in five. Tamer won the second and third games, 11-9, before falling 11-8, 11-6 in the final two. Stanely lost a narrow 10-12 fourth game before going down, 11-8, in the fifth.

Windreich led two games to none after taking the first two games, 11-3, 11-7. She then lost the next two in narrow, 11-9, fashion and then fell in the fifth, 11-5.

Getting wins for the Quakers against the Lions were Reeham Salah, Julia Buchholz, and Haley Scott. Salah and Buchholz each won via sweep while Scott came back after losing the first game, to win 3-1.

Prior to Sunday's match against Drexel, Salah was honored with the Betty Richey Award, adding to what has been a fabulous career with the Red and Blue.

The Quakers would face Drexel for seventh place in a rematch of the Pennsylvania State Classic final from earlier this season. Salah once again won, 3-0 at Penn's number one spot while Tamer and Windreich each bounced back with wins of their own.

However, Maragaret Franzt and Julia Buchholz each fell in five games while Davis and Scott each fell in four in another, 6-3, loss for the Quakers.
