Previewing Penn
The Quakers enjoyed an impressive regular season that saw them jump to No. 1 in the CSA rankings for the first time in program history and set new program milestones along the way.
Penn finished the regular season with 12 wins, marking the most in program history.
With impressive road wins over No. 7 Yale and No. 8 Princeton, the Quakers defeated both Ivy foes in the same year for the first time since 1973-74.
Penn went on to finish with a 5-2 record during Ivy League play, placing second in the conference. Its second place finish in the Ivy League marked its best since coming in second in 1986-87. The five wins during Ivy play were also the most since 1968-69 when the Quakers won the Ivy League title.
Not only did Penn find good fortune during conference play, its successful run during non-conference matches shot them up to the No. 1 ranking. Prior to the Ivy League season, the Red and Blue recorded top-10 wins over No. 4 St. Lawrence, No. 5 Rochester, and No. 9 George Washington.
No. 2 Rochester joins Penn in the Potter Cup. The two teams would face again if they were to reach the finals as they are on opposite sides of the draw. The Quakers were 4-3 against the rest of the field in the Potter Cup this season.
Leading the way for the Quakers this season has been freshman,
Aly Abou Eleinen. He finished 14-1, including a 6-1 record during Ivy League play. Eight of the freshman's wins came via sweep and his only loss came against No. 1 Harvard.
Captain
Jonathan Zeitels has provided consistent depth for Penn this season. Zeitels recorded double-digit wins (11) for the third time in his four years and has a 5-1 record during Ivy League play.
Penn will begin the Potter Cup against Yale. The Quakers defeated the Bulldogs at the Brady Squash Courts, 7-2, earlier this season.
