NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Pennsylvania women's fencing team recorded a third place finish at the Ivy League Round-Robins over the weekend. Its third-place finish marks the Quakers' highest finish at the Ivy League Round-Robins since 2015 when they tied for second.
Leading the way for Penn was
Vanessa Dib and
Miranda Gieg. The duo earned second-team all-Ivy honors with their strong performances. Dib finished fifth in epee with an 11-6 record while Gieg placed fifth in sabre, going 13-4.
In fencing the top three finishers at the Ivy Championships in each weapon group earn first team All-Ivy while fourth through sixth earn second team.
Dib had positive records in five the team's six bouts over the weekend. Her perfect, 3-0 mark against Harvard led the epee squad to a 6-3 win, helping the Quakers edge past the Crimson, 15-12.
Gieg went a perfect 3-0 against Cornell and Columbia, while also going 2-0 in the team's win over Brown. With 40 wins, she leads the women's sabre team in individual wins.
The Quakers will have next weekend off before competing in the Temple Invite the following week.
