How It Happened
Penn scored the game's first five points and never looked back after that. It was 10-7 when
Max Martz hit back-to-back three-pointers, spurring a 12-2 run that pushed the Quakers lead to 22-9. Howard got within seven at one point, causing head coach
Steve Donahue to take a timeout, but an 8-2 run at the end of the period had Penn up at the break, 39-23.
The lead grew to as many as 20 points, at 53-33, before Howard (2-12) made a run. The Bison scored seven in a row, the start of a 13-2 run that cut the Quakers' lead to 55-46. At that point, Donahue took his second timeout and that settled the Red and Blue. Out of the break,
Devon Goodman knocked down a three-pointer from the right corner and then hit a mid-range jumper, and then after a Howard bucket
Ryan Betley made another trey. That pushed the lead back up to 63-48 and that proved to be the knockout blow.
