Men's Soccer Battles Brown to 1-1 Draw

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In an even match from start to finish, the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team battled back from a 1-0 deficit following a second-half goal from Alex Touche, but couldn't find the game-winner after 110 minutes, settling for a 1-1 draw with Brown. The result pushes Penn to 6-5-3 on the year and 2-1-2 in Ivy League play.

PENN NEWS AND NOTES
*Touche's goal was his second of the season and the eighth of his career.

*The shot category was virtually even, with the Bears registering 18 shots to Penn's 16. Penn was more opportunistic in its attempts, however, with eight shots on goal to Brown's four.

*Dane Jacomen collected three saves in 110 minutes of play.

*Isaac McGinnis and Jake Kohlbrenner led the Quakers with four shots each. Brandon Bartel had three shots on goal.

*Brown had nine corner kicks to eight for the Quakers.

*Penn has ventured into overtime with Brown in four-straight seasons, owning two wins, one loss and one draw against the Bears.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Play was even throughout the first half of action, with the Bears edging Penn in shots, 8-7. Penn's first shot came in the seventh minute on a strike from Kai Lammers, while McGinnis struck Penn's shot on frame in the 22nd tick of play, rebounded high by Jack Rosener

The Bears took the lead in the 51st minute on an opportunistic corner kick from Matthew Chow, as the Brown player curled in a shot straight from the kick into the far post to go up 1-0. It didn't take long for Penn to respond, as Kohlbrenner was taken down in the box, giving the Quakers a penalty kick opportunity.

Bartel took the spot kick, but the Brown keeper came up big with a save, rebounding out to the top of the box and hammered home under the crossbar by Touche. Penn used momentum from its equalizer to put more pressure on the Brown defense, including a shot on frame from Kohlbrenner entering the final 10 minutes.

The Quakers featured two shots on goal in the first overtime period, with Touche heading a shot on frame off a corner, and Rosener sending in a saved shot with just a minute left in the extra frame. Penn had more of a flurry in the double overtime period, looking to mimic last week's magic, but couldn't find the winning shot.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers return home for their final match at Rhodes Field next Saturday, Nov. 9, hosting Princeton at 7 p.m.
