HOW IT HAPPENED
The Quakers didn't need much time to jump in front. With just over a minute taken off the clock, Maddy Fagan won the ball in midfield and fed Reese Vogel at the top of the circle. Vogel fired a shot on goal which was kicked away by Brown's Jodie Brine. The ball fell to Kelly on the other side of the circle, whose backhanded shot ricocheted into the cage.

Penn doubled its lead minutes later from the game's third shot. Jiranek received the ball and dribbled down the left flank. She beat a pair of defenders and darted into the circle. Jiranek centered a ball to Quinn, who tapped the ball into an empty net to give the Quakers a 2-0 lead.

The Red and Blue continued to push on with six more unanswered shots in the first quarter, but none could beat Brine as Penn entered halftime maintaining its 2-0 lead.

Penn looked to make it three midway through the third quarter. Sydney Huang earned a penalty stroke after her progress within the circle was illegally halted by a Bears' back. Elita van Staden stepped up to take the stroke but Brine reacted well to get her foot onto the freshman's shot to keep the score at 2-0.

Brown took advantage of the saved stroke to get a foot into the game late in the third quarter. With less than 30 seconds on the clock, Lexi King dispatched a rebounded shot into Penn's cage to cut the lead in half.

Play tilted back in Penn's favor in the fourth. Van Staden and Jiranek both fired on Brine's goal, but the Brown keeper did well to keep the teams separated by one score. With five minutes remaining, the Quakers earned their second penalty stroke of the day.

Schneck stepped up this time and fired a shot past the outstretched stick of Brine to make it 3-1. The Bears fought back and scored in the final minute of play, but the Quakers' third was enough to put the game to rest.
