At the beginning of the season, Wagner announced that this season—his 50th—would be his last as head coach of the Quakers' sprint football team. This Saturday, Wagner will coach his final game with the Red and Blue. Since being hired in June 1969, Wagner has led the Quakers to five CSFL championships and coached the team to 140 victories. Over his years at Penn, Wagner is estimated to have coached over 1,500 student-athletes between his time in charge of the sprint football program as well as his 35 years as an assistant coach with the baseball team.
League-Leading Offense
Offensive coordinator
Jerry McConnell has brought the Penn offense to new heights this season. The Quakers lead the CSFL in nearly every offensive category including scoring (235 points, 39.2 per game), total offense (2,537 yards, 422.8 per game), rushing offense (1,436 yards, 239.3 per game), and pass efficiency (163.1). All of Penn's points this year have come from touchdowns and point-after attempts.
Career Year
Senior quarterback
Eddie Jenkins has been torching opposing defenses in his final year with the Quakers. The Pittsburgh native leads the league with 1,491 yards of total offense, 248.5 yards per game, 15 rushing touchdowns, and 25 total touchdowns. Jenkins is just two touchdowns shy of the single-season program record set by Todd Busler in 2011.
Running Riot
In his first season as Penn's starting running back,
Laquan McKever has made his mark on the league. The sophomore ranks second in the CSFL with 692 rushing yards and 115.3 yards per game.
Downfield Threat
Brendan McCaffrey has proven to be Jenkins' favorite target throughout the season. After posting his first 100-yard receiving performance against Alderson Broaddus, the sophomore ranks second in the league with 386 receiving yards. Against the Battlers, McCaffrey reeled in five passes for 116 yards, including a career-long 68-yard touchdown.
Party in the Backfield
Aaron Johnson has been leading a stout Penn defense this year, pacing the team with 42 tackles (35 solo). The junior captain has set up shop in opposing teams' backfields; he leads the team with 10.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Covering the Cougars
Caldwell enters the weekend with a 2-4 record and is 1-2 in South Division play after a 28-11 loss at Chestnut Hill last weekend. After winning two of its first three games, Caldwell has lost three straight.
